BLOOD GHOST HAUNTING
by
Daniel Malone

The ancient entity felt rage, hate and hunger fueled by the many years traveling to the surface of the earth. Rage from its long ago fate, hate for the responsible power that enacted its fate, and hunger for revenge and human souls. Its emotions encompassed the entire thoughts of the entity and provided the fire to attain freedom from its ancient grave.
Vibrations traveled through the ground, above the creature, from something large and loud. They vibrations came from a yellow dozer excavating dirt on the surface, the silence of the Earth above finally over for the entity.
The last time the creature lived on the surface was across the Ohio River about a half-mile downstream from a small city called Alexandria, Ohio. The same place the spirit became buried. It wouldn't know of the city until it took its first soul, gaining all knowledge of the person it took. With a person's soul it would learn about a new world it wouldn't understand, but would want to conquer.
Alexandria, a quit city surrounded by hills and expanses of tilled floodplains with the Ohio Riverfront on the Southside and Scioto River following its banks on the West side. The city sat inside a large "V" shaped plot of land with the Ohio and Scioto River's broad valleys (a mile wide in most places) on all but three sides.
It was a quit valley that used to bustle with industry long gone now. It wouldn't remain quit for long because the valley held an unimaginable secret, a secret that would rip at the fibers of the community, plunging its land and citizens in an unimaginable and horrific state of evil.
The entity underground could sense the souls of two men nearby and thirsted for their souls and the wetness of water. The Ohio River nearby would provide better movement for the spirit and provide energy for it to grow its strength.
Of course, it would take the souls if they came close enough, the tortured entity would take any life it could to regain its life above ground.
It had waited many years as it gained enough strength to finally flow itself back toward the surface of the Earth, inside a crack the width of a piece of paper. A crack in the Earth that traveled to the scorching center where many horrors resided, and a place the entity feared.
The noisy bulldozer pushed dirt in large swaths leveling the ground. The CAT Dozer was 1990 D4C Model, a well-used dozer with many scuffs, dints and missing paint on several places. It fatefully scooped a semi-bowl shape in the dirt just above the crevice where the entity waited.
The spirit didn't need help breaking the surface, but welcomed the opening the dozer provided. For the first time in a millennium the spirit felt the warm heat of sunlight on its body with the last layer of its grave removed.
With renewed urgency the blood trapped spirit flowed faster, filling up the bowl shape in the ground. After filling the bowl shape it overflowed the edge and began its short journey down the steep bank to the Ohio River. The entity knew where the beautiful river was and remembered days, long ago, of bathing in its wetness.
It could sense the fear and disgust of the man, on the noisy and yellow animal, when he noticed his liquid and putrid self, gurgle out of the ground flowing toward the river.
It liked fear of the man. It needed the fear so the man would allow him to enter. All the panic ridden man had to do was invite by opening his mouth to scream.
As it entered the river it could feel the oxygen hydrogen mixture saturate its body. The blood body of the entity felt a burst of refreshing strength to continue its journey into the river. It flowed faster and began forming a discolored display in the river water flowing out from the bank.
The entity needed the energy of life to coagulate its substance, and become a breathing creature again. It used the oxygen and microscopic life in the river to begin its formation. But something it missed is the soul of humans and it hoped to capture the two it sensed nearby.
"This is just great. The boss won't like this." The blood heard the man named Tom say as he got off the noisy machine. It hungered for the soul but the man ran away too fast to.
"No one can run away when I make my creatures." Thought the entity. "They tried to kill me but now I will kill them all!" the entity vowed. "I will rebuild my army that no one can destroy!"
The dozer operator Tom banged on the door of his bosses construction trailer that served as a temporary, on-site office. His boss named Steve answered the door.
"Is there a problem?" Steve asked Tom annoyed.
"Uh… maybe… I think we may have a little problem." Tom said.
"What is it… you didn't bust hydraulics again… did you?"
"No, no, it is something worse than that… Uh, I think.  I just dozed… a… uh, I don't know what it is! You should see all the stuff! Man, it's creepy! I have never seen anything like it! You have to come and see it! It looks like dark blood or something!" Tom yelled.
The Blood entity felt some evil from the man named Steve. It felt good to feel these emotions and it became more urgent to gain Tom's soul.
"Aww, come on just calm down. I am sure your making a big deal out of nothing. Just calm down." Steve said.
"It's not that. It's just that I don't know what the liquid is… it's, it's dark, thick and red." Tom said.
"It's probably muddy water or something." Steve tried to be rational, "Just calm down I said."
"You just don't understand! It's dark red, man; and thick and running down the bank into the river! "
"Fucking calm down and don't tell me I don't understand!"  Tom snapped and furrowed his eyes in anger. "I do understand we have a job to finish and it won't get it done arguing with me! Do you understand?" Steve yelled at the obviously shaken Tom.
"Yes." Steve conceded.
"You know how mad I get when we fall behind. So let's take a look at this liquid before I really get mad." Steve said.
If they would just get close enough thought the flowing creature.
"Man… I mean Boss, I am sorry for arguing."
"Damn what is that smell!" Steve pinched his nose as he came closer to the spot. "It sure looks like black blood and thick to."  Steve proclaimed.
"It smells like a rotting body. Man, I don't like this!" Tom said, his voice sounded muffled because he had his nose pinched between his fingers. The Blood liked the feel of Tom's fear but he was weak but his soul would do anyway.
"There is a bunch of it and it keeps coming. I wonder where it's coming from…" He paused then blurted "Hell with it, it doesn't matter just cover it up! We don't have time to find out what it is but we can't leave it like this. We can't finish with this smell and stuff running out of the ground." Steve finished lowering his voice.
"Man, I can't do that." Tom said. "What if it's coming from a grave?"
The Blood laughed inside at the argument and how stupid the two souls acted. If only he could gain a soul so he could speak to them.
"Dammit Tom, don't be a wimp! Why would it be coming from a grave? Were not digging in a graveyard! It is just some stinky liquid and I don't give a shit if you don't like it! I am telling you to stop rubbing your pussy, get on Baby and cover it with dirt and I mean now!" Steve said angrily then changed his tone again. "I bet you busted open an old septic tank. Hum… I didn't know there was a house here before."
"I don't know about that. I don't feel right doing this." Tom continued to protest.
"Fuck! I said you busted a septic tank scardy ass." Steve became angrier with Tom. " Shit… All right then, what the fuck, you don't have too! I'll fucking do it!" Steve said.
"Uh… thanks, I… I… uh… just don't feel right messing with, with… whatever it is."
"Oh and Tom?"
"Yes?"
"Your fucking fired!"
"Please sir, I need this job. I have a family. Please don't fire me. I'll cover it up." Tom pleaded with Steve.
"No. You had your chance dick head. Now I will do it and you can go back home and explain to our family how big of a pussy you are about some stinky water!" Steve walked to his "Baby" mumbling more curses under his breath.
"That's it, Tom, get on Baby and cover me up." the entity thought knowing this was its chance.
Steve climbed onto the bulldozer and began pushing dirt over the dark red and flowing substance. It pushed itself deep into the soil to saturate it with its blood as much as possible. When Steve maneuvered towards the small and dark red stream with a blade full of dirt the dozer began to sink.
The ancient Blood could feel the hard and cold steel sinking inside itself and gained no satisfaction from its matter but Tom's soul would be different. So it continued to absorb the massive steel object to get to Steve.
"Damn!" Steve put the gear into reverse but the heavy machine tracks just spun in the wetness and didn't move backward. "Come on Baby!" Steve said.
"Fuck! I can't afford another dozer!" He cursed as he stood up and jumped off.
When he landed on the ground it gave under his feet and he began sinking as if he had landed in quicksand. In two seconds he was up to his chest in the black mud mixture. Panic set in as he realized something had a hold of his feet and kept sucking him down.
The liquid crawled up his pant legs soaking every fiber of his clothing.
"Help! Tom! Help me! It's got me…. Oh god the fucking thing has got me! Help me!" Steve screamed for his life then gagged and began to puke from the foul odor. His puke came out his mouth and his nose making his eyes water.
Steve held his chin up to keep his face from the putrid liquid but finally he became immersed into the thick black goo. The squishy wetness probe into his ears and nose. Tom opened his mouth to scream and the rank blood-like liquid filled his mouth, entered his lungs and stomach pushing his life-giving breath out of his body. The Blood had him now. Steve's soul was now his and there would be many more.
With this new soul he now had a voice and with this new soul he could take more and build his army to destroy humanity. He could feel the other man named Tom running away but it needed one more soul so it could began its army.
"You can run away Tom! I will catch you and we can flow together…" yelled the garbled voice of the Evil One.
